Review: The Island of Doctor Libris by Chris Grabenstein

The novel, The Island of Doctor Libris, by Chris Grabenstein explores the mystery of the eccentric Doctor Libris’s library through Billy G.

Billy G.’s parents are divorced so he splits his time between his dad and mom. He’ll spend the summer with his mom . With his mom working on an important paper,hHe expects he’ll be bored out of his mind.

When Billy G. breaks his new iPhone, he’s forced to discover another means of entertainment. He finds it in Doctor Libris’s library. To his astonishment, he discovers that whenever he opens a book and reads aloud, he can hear the story being played out on an island whose purpose his unknown.

Since reading Escape from Mr. Lemencello’s LibraryChris Grabenstein’s other book, I had high expectations. I have to admit that I was disappointed. The characters didn’t feel as fresh and didn’t have me cheering for them that much. I also thought that the writing flowed better in the other book. For these reasons, I somewhat enjoyed the book and will give this book a rating of Choose It!-Leave It!

This book also wasn’t as original because it shared a lot of characteristics with the author’s other book. There was an eccentric book-loving man, a boy who knows a surprising amount about books considering he doesn’t read much, and books.

However there were many interesting facts and humorous dialogues interspersed throughout the book, which made the book more fun to read.

Rating: Choose It!-Leave It!
